Summit Sierra Nevada

The RCC Summit Sierra Nevada takes place in one of Europe’s most alluring cycling destinations just outside the amazing city of Granada, in the foothills of Spain’s highest mountains.

From palms and pines to snow-lined climbs, RCC members will have fantastic access to the best riding the region has to offer. You’ll ride, rest and race with clubmates from around the world as well as gaining unique insights into Rapha and the sport through a varied programme of off-bike events.

Use this page to plan your Summit - from choosing which routes you’ll ride during the weekend to making your travel arrangements and ensuring you’ve packed all you need during the weekend.

Please check back regularly as this page will constantly update.

Hotel

The Summit will be based in Granada Palace Hotel, just outside central Granada in the village of Cajar. This is about about 150 km from Málaga International airport, or 25 km from Granada airport. Transfer time will be about 90-120 minutes from Málaga or 25 minutes from Granada.

The hotel will act as our hub throughout the Summit weekend. Each ride will depart from here and most off-bike activities will take place in the hotel. The Rapha Mobile Club House will be serving the finest coffee every day, and secure parking will be available all weekend. Pro-level mechanics will also be on hand for any adjustments or fixes you may need.

If you have booked a double room and would like to share with a particular person, please let us know using the questionnaire.

Staying elsewhere

If you’re not staying in Granada Palace, look for places around Cajar/Huetor Vega/Monachil, or generally to the south of central Granada. This area is very hilly and some distances are much longer than they seem so we recommend staying within about 5 km of the Granada Palace Hotel and checking the route in advance of booking the place.

AirBnB has several properties available around the Summit hotel, from rooms for one person to whole villas for a dozen.

Visit Homeaway or Rentalia for holiday rentals geared towards large groups.

If you're staying elsewhere, you can still keep your bike at the secure bike storage in the Summit hotel if needed.

Transfers

Let Rapha take care of your transfer to the RCC Summit Sierra Nevada. We will provide transfers between both Málaga and Granada airport and the hotel on the first and final day. Please book your place on a shuttle below. Rapha staff will be welcoming you in the terminals and lead you to the shuttles.

If the schedules are not convenient for you, there’s other kinds of transportation available.

From Málaga there is a bus connection from the airport to Granada coach station. The direct buses run at 08:30, 10:45, 11:00, 11:30, 16:00, 18:30 and 20:45 and return at 07:00, 08:00, 9:00, 10:15, 13:15 and 18:30. You can either buy the coach ticket at the airport, or online at https://www.alsa.es/ (pay with Paypal, foreign cards don’t work). These buses depart from directly outside the arrivals terminal. Granada coach station is about 15 minutes drive from the Summit venue - a taxi is about 20 euros.

A taxi from Málaga airport is about 120 - 160 euros.

From Granada airport there is a bus connection to Granada central where you can catch a taxi, or a taxi directly from airport should cost around 40 euros.
You can also consult the Granada tourism page for more ideas or check the bus timetables here.

Bike Hire

There will be a very limited number of Canyon test bikes available to borrow for the weekend. Please see the available models here. These bikes will be available from Friday morning to Monday midday only.

Due to the limited numbers please research options to bring your own bike or hire one locally.

Cycle Sierra Nevada has offered us a discount and they can deliver the bikes directly to the Summit hotel. To use this offer, please complete the bike hire form on their page and on the form, select “pick up” and add a comment that the bike will be used in the RCC Summit in Granada Palace. They will then send you a payment link, and you can use code RCCSUMMIT to get the discount.

Another good local option is Bicicletas La Estacion, they have a great selection and their shop is conveniently located in central Granada. This can also be a good place for any last minute shopping.

RCC Summit Championship

Test your legs against your fellow clubmates in the Annual Summit Championship and take a shot at glory for your chapter. Every Summit hosts a fun and relaxed competition to cap off the weekend. This year’s test will be a hillclimb competition up a classic local climb. Whether riding or cheering from the roadside, the Summit Championship is always good fun.

Itinerary

Sierra Nevada’s world-class cycling terrain is more than diverse enough to offer something for every kind of rider. Each day of the Summit will offer a variety of rides to choose from, providing opportunities to explore the area both towards the mountains and the coast. It’s not mandatory to book on the rides, but doing so will help us to make sure things run smoothly (on-road support, lunch stops etc) as we have an idea of what kind of rides you’re planning to do.

After the rides we’ll offer a variety of workshops and talks you can join. Please use the link below to book your place. All of this programming is free to attend, but some of them may have limited places, so it’s a good idea to book in advance!

Rules Of The Road

To ensure that everyone has a fun and safe weekend, we encourage club members to treat this as a Club weekend, and not as a Rapha Travel trip. You should pre-load ride routes onto your Garmin, and be prepared to build and break down your bike. The routes will be available in May.

On the first day of the Summit we’ll go through some advice about riding in groups as well as the local highway codes.

Hospitality Desk

The RCC hospitality desk will be located near the hotel lobby, manned all day by RCC team members. Be it the location of dinner for a particular evening, or the finer details of your schedule for the day, you’ll find the answer here.
