Rapha 12 Hills

Saturday, 19th August

The Rapha 12 Hills ride is a celebration of hill climbing, taking place in Jönköping, Sweden. Few regions in Scandinavia offer up hills to rival the climbs the pros tackle in the spring classics, but Jönköping presents a landscape that allows you to replicate the suffering needed to master your inner climber.

Teams of two are invited to navigate their perfect route, taking in 12 infamous climbs in any order they wish, and passing through mandatory checkpoints at the top of each climb together. A kind of hill ‘scavenger hunt’.

The shortest possible route is around 160km and – with hills ranging from 2.5% to 16% average – will accrue approximately 2,200m of elevation.

The Route

Jönköping was once part of the Postgirot Open (the Tour Of Sweden) and the hills surrounding the town have been tackled by many pros during the 80s and 90s. One of the most feared climbs from the Tour is featured in this year’s Rapha 12 Hills. A GPX file of a recommended route will be shared with registered participants ahead of the ride. The GPX file we will share is just an example of how to ride it, it is not mandatory to use it.

The Start

The ride starts and finishes at Kulturhuset Spira in Jönköping.

  • 9:30-10:30 – pick up race numbers
  • 10:30 – rider’s meeting
  • 11:00 – start

Teams must finish their route before 18:00, including a mandatory checkpoint stop and coffee break.

The Hills

The twelve hills may be ridden in any order, but must be tackled from a specific side of the hill. Make sure your brevet card is stamped at the top of each climb to prove you’ve climbed all twelve, and that both team members must arrive at the finishing point before 18:00.

The Checkpoints

The Checkpoints will be published in due time.

Riders should bring team spirit, strong legs and the route-planning and navigation skills to seek out the hills.

Teams must be completely self-sufficient, carrying their own spares, and all riders must wear helmets. Team members must ride and finish together with the team that demonstrates having climbed the 12 hills in the shortest time, crowned the winner.

Teams can be mixed gender. Up to 100 teams of two can be accommodated.

Finish And Celebrations

The finish closes at 18:00 – all teams need to return before 18:00 regardless of the number of hills that have been climbed. A burger buffet will be available post-ride, and each finisher will be awarded a limited edition Rapha 12 Hills musette.

Registration fee per team is 600 SEK / 500 DKK / 600 NOK / 65 EUR / 55 GBP. This fee includes a limited edition Rapha 12 Hills Cap, a light snack at the start, a burger buffet post-ride and a limited edition Rapha 12 Hills musette.
