An introduction to the Rapha Prestige

The Rapha Prestige is not a race; it’s an unsupported, unsanctioned, and un-marshalled ride across stunning terrain. The rules are simple. The course is tough. Team members must start, ride and finish together.

With average altitude of 965m, Taebaek is located in the highest area in Korea. The Prestige Taebaek starts in Sindong in Jeongseon and passes through Taebaek, Samcheok then back to Jeongseon. And as the ride takes place in the highest region of Korea, the route includes several of Korea’s best climbs; Surari-jae, Manhang-jae and Samsu-ryeong to name a few.

The full route will be made available to confirmed participants 48 hours before the ride.

The sunrise and sunset on 20th November are 7:08 AM and 5:11 PM respectively. The daylight is short and the temperature in the mountains is expected to be low. Please make sure you’re in adequate form to be able to complete the 143km, 3,500m route within 10 hours maximum.

Road helmets and drop bars. No TT helmets or TT bars. We’d recommend wider tires for extra resilience against punctures. We strongly recommend teams use wheels with aluminium brake tracks with clincher tyres. A wide range cassette or even a compact chain set is recommended but not compulsory. Teams must carry their own spares (tubes, tyres, nutrition, etc.) and be completely self-sufficient. It is recommended to prepare riding lights in case your riding extends past sunset. The final section of the route includes some challenging hairpin descents. Riding these section in the dark is strongly unadvised.

Up to 25 teams of four riders will be confirmed. Teams can be mixed gender and contain both RCC and non-RCC members. Two to three teams will be reserved exclusively for RCC-only member teams. If applying as an RCC-only team, please ensure the ‘Are you a member of the RCC?’ tick box is checked for all members. All team selections are at the discretion of Rapha Korea.

100,000 KRW per team. Once your application has been accepted, Rapha Korea will be in touch to collect the entry fee.

The closing date for application is Monday 14th November but don’t wait for the closing date as the available spaces may fill up very quickly. Rapha Korea will contact confirmed teams and notify them directly on or before Wednesday 16th November.
