Phil Deeker in conversation with The Cycling Podcast
Last summer saw Cent Cols Challenge-founder Phil Deeker embark on a seemingly impossible journey through Europe’s mountains, conquering 1,000 mountain passes, or ‘cols’, in just 100 days. Having started in Corsica in May, Phil completed his Ride of a Thousand Cols in early October, cresting his final summit in Cantabrico. This feat of endurance is made all the more impressive given that Phil planned and led each stage of the ten Cent Cols Challenges he rode, serving as an inspiration to those he rode alongside.
After some well earned rest and recovery, Phil joined us last November at Rapha London Soho for a Q&A session hosted by Richard Moore and Lionel Birnie of The Cycling Podcast. Phil reflected on the highs and lows of his incredible journey and spoke about the two charities that inspired him along the way.
Cent Cols Challenge
Set your sights on a Cent Cols Challenge to pitch yourself against mythic climbs and discover roads less travelled from the Southern Alps to the Eastern and Western Pyrenees. This year, Phil will also ride a five-day Cent Cols Challenge Training Camp in the Northern Alps, offering an opportunity to test the waters of a ten-day challenge. Alternatively, for those seeking adventure on a slightly more relaxed agenda, the Belgian Classics Randonnée links point-to-point rides through many of cycling Spring Classic arenas.
