The Rapha Tempest: Festival of Cycling

Now only three weeks away, the Rapha Tempest Festival– Rapha’s festival of cycling at Broughton Hall – will be the best place to be for the biggest weekend in cycling this year. The world ‘s top teams will be racing through the Yorkshire Dales, just a short hop from the grounds of Broughton Hall where the festival is being held. Alongside watching the world’s biggest stage race flying past on both the Saturday and Sunday, the Tempest festival will offer plenty of other spectacles and activities for you, your friends and family.

Broughton Hall, a Georgian country house, sits in 3000 acres of landscaped grounds that will host a wealth of carefully curated stalls, stages, workshops and more. Get a good spot to camp whether with friends or in the family zone and enjoy Rapha and Strava guided rides in the morning and evenings, get your bike cleaned at the Muc-Off Rider Recovery Zone, eat, drink, shop and party at the Rapha Cycle Club, and listen to live music from bluegrass and reggae to DJs. Alongside regional food from local ice cream to charcuterie, there’ll be bars serving local ales, cider and more. There will be talks from cycling writers and artisans, nutrition and bike building workshops from CNP, Laverstock Farm and The Bicycle Academy, a Jaffe & Neale bookshop and Rapha Mini Super Cross, Hill Climb and Hot Laps. Cyclist Magazine will be holding a fete and Lezyne will be on-site with supplies, wheels and more, whilst Cotswold Outdoor will be offering tent pitching assistance and everything you could need for a weekend of camping. A big screen will of course show live coverage of the racing as well as highlights and replays. The best in cycling cinema and Rapha movies will also be shown whilst a kids zone from Nipperbout has everything from giant connect four to entertainers and circus skills workshop.

Here are just a few of the Rapha events taking place at the festival…

Mini Super Cross – Friday

Mud, sweat, cowbells and beer. Mini Super Cross brings intense bursts of hard-fought racing, with each race lasting 40 minutes. The winners will be seeded and invited to move into the Hot Laps.


  • Juniors/seniors/vets 40+
  • Women/vets 50+
  • Novice

Tempest Hill-Climb – Friday

Teams of six will race up a punchy climb. The last man/woman across the line will stop the clock and the fastest team will get unlimited beer for the evening at the Rapha Cycle Club. The slowest team will get bidons full of lead to quicken their descent.

Super-Cross Hot Laps – Saturday

Hot Laps is Mini Super Cross but even more condensed and on a custom-built woodland course.

Riders will be released every minute and for the first hour anyone can sign-up. The second hour, heading towards dusk, is where the best riders from the previous day will battle it out.

Guided Rides – All weekend

Join one of the Rapha or Strava organized rides every morning and evening at the festival, or just grab a route card and go and explore yourself. The rides will be at a social pace with a ‘no-drop’ policy. Ride sign-up will be at the Rapha H-Van the day before each ride.
