Held from 14th to 22nd of February, the Rapha Condor training camp in the south of Spain was a final get together for Britain’s number-one ranked team ahead of their first action of the season, the Giro Del Capo in South Africa’s Western Cape.
While an injured Dean Downing spent the week training in the gym, the remaining 11 riders went through the familiar training camp rituals. Riding in the morning, an average of 100 to 150 kilometres a day, they used the afternoons to recuperate, either resting by the pool or having tired limbs soothed by the team masseur. A great opportunity for some last-minute team building, training camps such as this represent the calm before the storm; with each passing day riders hone their form, knowing the hunt for podium places is about to begin in earnest.
