Date:

What’s your name, nickname, age, birthplace, hometown?
Greg | Sleeper | 40 | Minnesota | Portland

Favorite phenomenon?
Coffee and Doughnuts.

How do you like to tell stories?
Face to face.

Pivotal moments in life?
All of it.

Why/how did you start riding?
Trying to ride older brothers 10 speeds. I had to use a retaining wall to get on and then I couldn’t stop pedaling or I would fall over. I used to go to the local Schwinn dealer and just stare at bikes. The guy who owned the shop had a big handlebar mustcahe he gave me this Campagnolo cycling cap. I couldn’t pronounce Campagnolo and had no idea what it meant. It was yellow.

Family life, or home life; kids, wife, girlfriend, pets?
Schmitty – cat.

What’s your special talent/gift to the world?
I’m quiet.

What’s the continental project mean to you?
Riding roads and witnessing scenery that I wouldn’t find on my own. Meeting like-minded people from all over the country who enjoy this small category of riding bikes (preferably steel) on washed out dirt roads, with headwinds and lots of climbing. I like the climbing. Not the headwinds. Ice cold Coke and salted skin.

Why are you interested in documenting rides?
I’m actually more interested in riding the rides. I really like the photography, especially when the ride ends up being really “epic” with weather, or dogs, or crashes.

What do you want a riding guidebook to feature (what’s missing from what currently exists out there), and how will you contribute to that end goal?
What coffee shop do you start at. What bar do you end at. Perspective in between. Local and historical perspective of the area.

What’s style mean to you?
Making difficult things look easy.
Using whatever you have and loving it.

Who’s your favorite local rider and why?
No offense but i think this is a silly question.

Where in the world would you like to ride next and why or what group ride if you could do any would you do?
If group means “reach the beach” type rides….i’ll pass for right now…..i did the Nova Colli Gran Fondo in Italy this summer and i’ve never been so scared on a bike in my life. way too many people.

I would love to ride back in Minnesota (been a while), Spain; yup definately spain

You need anyone reading this to know…?
I ride a compact crankset.

Why cycling and not, running or shot put or speed skating?
I love skating, if speed skating were more accessible i’d do it.
Cycling because you can cover great distance fast and it’s just simple technology. Bikes have style.

Your favorite ride/moment ever, just the details?
Making it to Stevens Pass right at dark, fully sweaty after forging a river 3 hours earlier we wait shivering for 2.5 hours for ride back to Seattle. We buy 2 warm beers for $5 from guys in the parking lot. After jumping jacks, watching Aaron and Hahn hug each other we find “heat in the rocks” we lay down and tell stories and shit talk and describe all the food were gonna eat when we get back. Trystan shows up with 18 Tacos and a case of Tecate. I haven’t had Taco Bell that good ever.

What’s your job all about, why does it fit you?
I’m a traveling salesman. I like the traveling part.

What’s your program, like who and what and where is your world?
Loading, unloading. Avoiding and embracing. Settling in.

Where you live and why it suits you?
The NW has everything. Water, Mountains, HIgh Desert, Snow, Rain, Sun, Wind. Tough to get bored.
