Rapha Tempest | 3rd to 6th July, 2014
Broughton Hall, Skipton, Yorkshire
July is closer than you think, and if you’re planning to see the grandest stage race when it comes to England this summer, look no further than Rapha Tempest. This festival of cycling is held in the grounds of Broughton Hall in Yorkshire and will be the best place to watch the race, enjoy guided rides, relax and be merry in magnificent surroundings.
Close to both stages, Broughton Hall Estate is made up of 3000 acres of beautiful Yorkshire Dales countryside and will host a range of camping facilities including pre-pitched tents and luxury camping in bell tents (so you can ride to the festival with minimal gear). Central to the festival activities will be guided rides in the beautiful surrounding lanes; a mini Rapha Super Cross evening race with a grand final on Sunday; children’s rides and activities; and big screens to watch the race before and after it passes by.
There will also be route cards provided for exploring on your own; secure bike parking; a Rider Recovery Zone with bike washing and tune-ups; rental bikes, supplies and spares. There will be a wide selection of carefully chosen food and drink including the best frites in the UK from the Frying Dutchman, and local Yorkshire fayre such as award-winning pork pies, cheeses, ice cream and baked goods. A real ale and cider tent, including Skipton’s Copper Dragon Brewery, Perry’s Cider and Ilkley Brewery, is on hand for all your thirst quenching needs. On the bike nutrition will also be in supply alongside plenty of other epicurean delights.
There’s an outdoor cinema screening classic cycling films, Big Screens for race viewing, two stages for live music and DJs and the Jaffe & Neal bookshop will host talks and signings from riders and authors. There will also be a Rapha Cycle Club with food and drink, products including the Rapha Tempest collection, a display of Continental bikes and a programme of evening entertainment.
The festival is easy to get to from all major train stations, with Broughton Hall a short ride away from Skipton station.
