On 13th April we celebrate the fifth edition of Rapha’s homage to Paris-Roubaix, the Hell of the North. This year’s ride sees a revamped course, a very special Roubaix-themed feature, a special edition cap, and a woven badge.
100km of potholes, mud, and some of Hertfordshire’s meanest gravé* awaits. Starting in Pond Square in Highgate, this year’s edition will cross new gravé sectors before taking in the Queen of the Classics, Paris-Roubaix, in a New Barnet garden pub.
To mark Hell of the North’s fifth anniversary, we thought we’d revisit past editions to get us in the mood and, for those of you who haven’t ridden it before, give an idea of how infernal the Hell of the North can be.
Entry is free and, for this year’s event, we are going social. Entries will go live at noon (GMT) on Friday 21st March, exclusively via @rapha_uk. Save the date and set a reminder.
The limited edition cap will be on sale in the first week of April, and a woven badge will be issued to all participants on the day.
• (an area of) farm track/road/footpath/bridleway etc. which consists of potholes, loose paving, stones, rubble, and mud.
When and where does the ride start?
10am at Pond Square, Highgate. The ride finishes at a pub in Barnet. Its location will be divulged on the day.
Will there be a feed stop? Is it supported?
Yes, there will be a feed stop at halfway on the course. All participants will be given a beer and bag of frites on arrival at the finish. We recommend taking at least two inner tubes on the ride, as well as food and water. We also recommend riding wide tyres, at least 25mm.
Can I park in Highgate?
There is a lot of residential parking in Highgate, most of which is without charge on Sunday. However, we cannot guarantee availability of parking on any particular road.
How much does the ride cost?
The Hell of the North is free for all entrants.
How do I register?
Registration will only be available through the @rapha_uk Twitter account. Follow @rapha_uk, where a link for registrations will be posted at noon (GMT) on Friday 21st March. The 2013 edition was full in little under an hour, so we advise registering as soon as possible.
