It usually goes that the victor gets the spoils and the losers are largely forgotten. But what of the man who finishes beyond last, left behind by the broom wagon? Ask Maarten Neyens, the Belgian rider who accomplished such a feat during the 2008 e3 Prijs Vlaanderen, having completed 100 kilometres of the race. Stopping at a café for an urgent call of nature, Neyens returned to find himself abandoned by the broom wagon. Legend has it that his absence wasn’t discovered until the end of the race, hours later, and in that time Neyens ran up a tremendous bar tab. So, perhaps not the finest moment of Neyens’ professional cycling career, and certainly a feat he would rather forget. It is, however, celebrated here in the design of the limited edition cap for the Rapha Mobile Clubhouse Australia, itself a former broom wagon.
